The determination of clusters structures combining infrared spectroscopy and density functional theory calculations
Wednesday 20th May 2020 15:00 - 16:00 BST
Piero Ferrari will be presenting his work completed under the HPC-Europa3 Transnational Access programme
In clusters, particles composed of just a countable number of atoms, all physical and chemical properties depend strongly on size. In many cases, adding a single atom can drastically modify properties such as stability, chemical reactivity or magnetism, which is a consequence of a fine interplay between geometry and electronic structure.
Therefore, determining the precise geometry of a cluster is a fundamental step towards an understanding of the size-dependent properties of these particles, and possibly, for their use in applications. In this talk, a method able to determine the geometries of clusters will be discussed, which combines infrared spectroscopy experiments performed at free electron facilities, with density functional theory calculations. As a model system to illustrate this method, the structures of gold and palladium doped gold clusters will be presented.
This online session is open to all.

ARCHER2 Embedded CSE (eCSE) call
We are very pleased to announce that the 1st ARCHER2 eCSE call (ARCHER2 eCSE01) is now open for proposals. The deadline for submitting documents for technical evaluations is 16 June 2020, with the final deadline for proposal submission being 7 July 2020.
Embedded CSE (eCSE) support provides funding to the ARCHER2 user community to develop software in a sustainable manner, to run on the ARCHER2 system. For this call, only software which results in research which is within the remit of EPSRC is eligible and funding for this call does not include software within the remit of NERC
More details of how to apply are available by following the link to the eCSE calls page from here
https://www.archer2.ac.uk/ecse/together with details of the application and review process, assessment criteria eligibility, etc. Please note that the process for applying for an eCSE project under ARCHER2 has been updated since ARCHER eCSE programme. More details available via the above link.
The 1st ARCHER2 eCSE call (eCSE001) opened on:19 May 2020
Deadline for submitting documents for technical evaluation: 16:00 BST on Tuesday 16 June 2020
Deadline for final submission: 16:00 BST on Tuesday 7 July 2020
ARCHER2 eCSE Webinar
Wednesday 27th May 2020 15:00 - 16:00 BST
Chris Johnson (EPCC) and Lorna Smith (EPCC)
Through a series of regular calls, Embedded CSE (eCSE) support provides funding to the ARCHER2 user community to develop software in a sustainable manner to improve research on the ARCHER2 service. The funding allows the employment of a Research Software Engineer (RSE) to carry out software development of ARCHER2 software. Calls are issued 3 times per year and the first call close on 7 July 2020. This Webinar will provide an overview of the eCSE programme and describe the submission process.
This online session is open to all.
