End of ARCHER Service
Additional details - as issued 18th January
The ARCHER Service will end on Wednesday 27th January at 0800 GMT.
The HPE Cray team will be on site from 0800 to begin the physical decommissioning of the service.
At 0800 GMT, user access will be disabled, all user jobs will stop and the ARCHER compute nodes will be shutdown.
There will be no grace period to remove any data from these final running jobs so please allow time to remove any data needed.
ARCHER /home Data
Once the ARCHER Service has disabled user access, the systems team will then complete a final copy of the ARCHER /home data.
Once the final copy is complete, it will be made available on ARCHER2 and you will be able to access it. To access this data seamlessly from ARCHER2, you should have the same username that you had on ARCHER when the data was created. Further details on how to access this data will be provided once the data is available on ARCHER2.
The systems team have taken an initial copy of the data and are performing regular top-ups. We request that only necessary changes to the /home directory structure are made at this time as this will reduce the duration of the final copy of the data.
We hope to have the ARCHER /home data available on ARCHER2 within a few days but this will depend on changes made to /home before the final copy.
Please ensure that you have transferred any data that you immediately require on ARCHER2. A guide to do this is available at: https://docs.archer2.ac.uk/archer-migration/data-migration/
ARCHER /work Data
A reminder that all users are responsible for the transfer of any ARCHER /work data that they wish to keep.
There will be no access to /work after 0800 on Wednesday 27th January.
RDF /epsrc and /general Data
As you may be aware, the RDF is approaching the end of life. There is a follow on service called RDF as a Service (RDFaaS) which will replace the RDF for users who have data stored within /epsrc and /general and this will be available from ARCHER2 following the end of the ARCHER Service.
An initial copy of /epsrc and /general has been taken place. Similarly, to ARCHER /home, a final copy will be taken at the end of the ARCHER Service. Once the final copy is completed, it will be made available on ARCHER2 and you will be able to access it. To access this data seamlessly from ARCHER2, you should have the same username that you had on ARCHER when the data was created. Further details on how to access this data will be provided once the data is available on ARCHER2 and initially it will be on a read-only basis.
You are welcome to move data to the RDF if you have space within your quota but unfortunately we are not able to increase users' RDF quota.
If you have data stored within /epsrc and /general and your project is not migrating to ARCHER2 then we will be able to arrange access once the data is fully migrated.
Please ensure that you have transferred any data that you immediately require on ARCHER2. A guide to do this is available at: https://docs.archer2.ac.uk/archer-migration/data-migration/
